Sheldon College Vice Captain Isabelle Treasure was announced joint winner of Youth Citizen of the Year at the 2022 Redlands Coast Australia Day Awards.

Each year, the Redland City Council acknowledges the outstanding members and organisations that make up its community through its Australia Day Awards Ceremony.  Held on Wednesday 26 January, the ceremony acknowledged the high-achieving members within the community who have made outstanding contributions, and have given freely of their time, knowledge and enthusiasm to promote the welfare and wellbeing of others across the Redlands Coast.  

Once again, another outstanding Sheldon College student was recognised. Congratulations to Year 12 student, Isabelle (Issy) Treasure, on being the deserving joint recipient of the Youth Citizen of the Year. Issy received this award not only for her selfless efforts to implement and support wellbeing and environmental initiatives within Sheldon College, but also for her continuous efforts to create change and help those in need in the wider community. Issy shows us how one person can make a difference to so many. 

Of the award, Issy says “It was very special to receive the Young Citizen of the Year award for 2022. I feel very grateful to have been recognised for my efforts in the community, and I see this as an opportunity to connect with more like-minded young people who share similar passions of making a difference in our community!” 

Additionally, during Wednesday’s ceremony, Sheldon College’s founding Principal, Dr Lyn Bishop OAM was named Citizen of the Year. Sheldon College Principal, Ms Kate Mortimer said “Dr Lyn Bishop has done an incredible service to the community in building an outstanding private school. Her legacy for children and families in Redland City cannot be overstated. Each member of the Sheldon College community, past, present and future has been guided by her vision and determination to provide our community with an exceptional educational institution. Our College Vice Captain, Isabelle Treasure is testimony to this. Issy, a very worthy recipient of the Young Citizen of the Year Award is extraordinary in her passion and drive to make our world a better place. We cannot wait to see how far she will fly!” 

This award ceremony is held annually to acknowledge inspirational Redlands residents. Congratulations, Isabelle and Dr Bishop on your well-deserved awards.
