Technical smartwatches, environmentally friendly clothing and a convenient first-time car buyer’s app were among the many outstanding designs presented by Year 10 Business Students at Sheldon College’s Virtual Marketplace Business evening.

The #JustStartIt Business Program was designed to help students develop market research skills and to identify market gaps that can be filled through the use of creative business concepts, while also further developing their presentation skills. The #JustStartIt project reinforced the need for students to remain engaged and committed to their Business studies throughout the Term to ensure they created high quality work, of which they could be proud.

Held in the College’s state-of-the-art LINQ and ArtScapes Precinct, students presented their business ideas across various stations, where parents and visitors voted for their favourite three business ideas. The top three shortlisted designs were then reviewed by the panel of highly qualified guest judges and then an overall winner was announced.

The Year 10 students benefitted immensely from the rich learning opportunities that they were able to take away from this experience. They were focused on developing entrepreneurial, collaborative, problem solving and innovating thinking skills, each relevant to the modern business world.

Amanda Tanks, Acting Head of Faculty – Business and Technologies said “I am beyond proud of the efforts and dedication shown by each of these Year 10 students. They have all worked so passionately throughout the term to create appropriate and futuristic business ideas that they were eager to showcase.  Each of these students demonstrated enthusiasm for their work when presenting their ideas to the audience.”

Sheldon College will watch, with interest, as these young achievers’ careers develop.
