To mark the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron’s 136th Sailing Season, three talented Senior College students had the opportunity to perform at their annual Open Day Ceremony on Saturday 5 September in front of The Governor of Queensland, His Excellency The Honourable Paul de Jersey AC.

Daniela Costa Teixeira performed God Save the Queen, Sophie Smith – Advance Australia Fair and Alivia Hollis – Eternal Father and Strong to Save.

Their yearly Open Day is the cornerstone and most enjoyed event in the Squadron calendar. It is always the perfect opportunity for club members and visitors to gather in celebration of the Squadron, its fleet and the sport of sailing.

Additionally, students from a number of the College’s bands including Stage Band, Rock Band 1, Dixieland Band, Big Band and Soul Band also had the opportunity to perform on stage throughout the remainder of the day’s activities.

All the students displayed utmost talent, enthusiasm and creativity during their performances.

Sheldon College bands have been a highlight at this event over the last few years. It brings great pleasure to those in attendance, and also to the students as the Open Day Ceremony provides an additional opportunity for the students to perform in front of a live, yet external audience.
