Year 12 student, Danielle Bayes, is evidence of the high calibre of the Sheldon College Basketball Club, having been a member of the program since she was 7 years of age.

Currently a part of Sheldon College Youth Girls’ Club team playing in Division 1 in the Southern Districts Competition, Dani has already had an impressive year. A regular member of QLD representative teams, we were proud to learn that Dani was once again selected into the QLD Representative Merit team following an impressive contribution to the MET-East tournament. In addition, Dani has been signed with Logan Thunder to play in the semi-professional 2021 NBL1 Women’s Season. These are outstanding achievements from a high school student.

Dani has also been actively involved in the GBC competitions, leading her basketball teams to victory for the past 5 consecutive years. She has branched out into other sports, successfully trying her hand at GBC Netball throughout the years. Having been awarded Sheldon College’s Female Basketball Player of the Year for the past 6 consecutive years, Dani continues to add to her ever-growing list of accolades.

Dani’s impressive basketball talent has more recently seen her enrolled in Sheldon College’s Aspiring Athletes Program. Program coordinator, Brogan Hunter says, “Dani possesses the qualities you would look for in a dedicated athlete; she’s passionate, disciplined and has an inner desire to succeed.”

Dani is currently amid talks with several US College coaches, with the possibility of receiving a scholarship to study at a Division 1 College and play in the NCAA Tournament. Dani says she aspires to play in the Euro-League or in Australia’s WNBL after graduating from college.

We wish her all the best with her future pursuits, and we look forward to seeing Dani play in the big league one day!
