School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SATs)
Students at Sheldon College will have access to Nationally Recognised education and training through Traineeships and Apprenticeships that are registered with the Department of Education, Training and Employment (DETE). Students are engaged in paid employment and study both on the job and off the job.
These students are given the opportunity to commence studies and work in their chosen field whilst still at school. The credentials are Nationally Recognised and students may be fast tracked into future courses. The Apprenticeships and Traineeships will be organised to take advantage of the College’s flexible timetable.
Aviation and Space Academy
In launching this Academy, we have been able to provide students with the opportunity to commence studies in Aviation as well as expand their knowledge and skill in relation to Space Design and Engineering.
To facilitate training in Aviation, we have partnered with the Australian Wings Academy (AWA) based at the Gold Coast Airport. Programs being developed for students in Year 10 include Physics and the Flying Machine to allow students to study Aviation and Aeronautics. This unit concludes with a flight day with our partners at the Australian Wings Academy.
The Careers Centre at Sheldon College is located in Senior Schooling. The Director of Senior Schooling, the Careers Advisor and Senior Schooling team work to ensure that each student’s individual pathway is catered for. We recognise that students are facing multiple challenges during this time in their schooling as well as the pressures of the changing world of work. Students may now have multiple occupations in a number of different industries, some in occupations that are not yet created. This causes challenges for educators and we strive to help students to be flexible, adaptable and highly skilled lifelong learners.
