Let’s Celebrate Our Diverse World – Year 6 Multicultural Fiesta at Sheldon College
Last week Sheldon College parents of Year 6 students were treated to a variety of international food and multicultural activities as part of their Geography Unit, entitled ‘Our Diverse World’. Students learned about Asia and the connections it has with Australia, as well as various cultural traditions within Asian countries and how these have fused with modern Australia.
Students were organised into groups and showcased two to three facets of culture which they had to plan, prepare and deliver to an audience of their parents and special friends. The day was a success with stalls displaying a variety of international food – from coconut jelly to san choy bow, and from butter chicken to jewelled rice.
Other entertainment included stalls and activities for visitors to enjoy, such as cherry blossom face painting, Tae Kwon Do, sumo wrestling, Mandarin character writing, Origami and interactive quizzes. Many thanks to the large number of parents and friends who visited and sampled the Asian food delights, and especially to the students who put in the hard work to make the day such a memorable one.
