What an amazing day to celebrate 20 years of Sheldon College sport, the outstanding athletic abilities of the students and to christen the new athletics facilities that were completed in April 2017.  The weather Gods were definitely on our side and the house spirit, student participation and dedication to performance by all students was definitely evident at 2017 Twilight Track and Field Carnival on Thursday 15 June.

The day started with the loud and booming chants from the House March Past which was a tradition that was once present in the early days of the Interhouse Sports Carnivals.  The House Leaders took control and each House embraced their culture and challenged all other Houses to a competitive day of events.  It was a privilege to welcome Borobi, the 2018 Commonwealth Games Mascot as well as introduce our the newly appointed Sheldon College Lion mascot to officially open the 2017 Senior Athletics Twilight Carnival.

Outstanding performances were expected with the new track, yet it was phenomenal to see the students in action and really appreciate their talents which have come about through some very dedicated and hard training sessions.  The premier event - ‘Fastest 8’ was exceptional to watch and Azelle Breytenbach (Year 11) and Taige Hooper (Year 10) should be congratulated on taking out this inaugural event.

Overall it was a wonderful day and all staff, students and parents should be congratulated for their participation and assistance in contributing to a successful event.  It was lovely to see so many Alumni students visit the carnival either to participate in the relay events, assist with presentations, or just to pop in and take a trip down memory lane to relive what it was like to be a Sheldon College student again.  Finally, congratulations to Integra who were crowned overall Secondary champions on the evening.  We now look forward to the Year 3 to 6 Carnival early in Term 3.
