A Sports program where participation, dedication and opportunity equal personal excellence for every student.
The benefits that Sport has on young people are well documented, including learning key traits such as leadership, resilience, self-confidence and mental strength. Sheldon College has built a Sports Program which focuses on the needs of the student, putting an emphasis on developing the whole athlete to reach their individual best. The College strives to offer opportunities that cater for all students, regardless of age or ability. The program is led by a team of dedicated staff members, from administrators through to teachers and coaches, who are committed to continued improvement of the whole program.
Sheldon College is a member of a number of different sporting associations including the Greater Brisbane Conference (GBC). This provides students in Years 3-12 with many wonderful interschool sporting opportunities. The College has a rich history of outstanding performances in the GBC, consistently competing for premierships and regularly taking out the Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics championships. The College is also a member school of the Bayside District and Metropolitan East Region which provides many fulfilling opportunities for students who endeavour to explore the Queensland School Sport pathway. Sheldon College is also a member club at Brisbane Southern Districts Basketball and Redlands Junior Touch Football. Finally, the College also provides unique interschool sporting opportunities to those students interested in rugby union and equestrian.
The Sheldon Academy of Sport (SAS) bundles together our year-round professionally coached sports of athletics, swimming and tennis, with the aim of enabling students in all such programs to develop to their maximum potential. The track record of the coaches involved is exceptional, with our student athletes regularly competing for national titles. Our SAS programs also incorporate clubs affiliated with Queensland Athletics, Swimming Queensland and Tennis Queensland, removing the need for our athletes to have to join external clubs.
