Choirs and Vocal Groups

Senior College Chorale (Years 9 to 12)

The Senior College Chorale is our flagship vocal ensemble with more than 70 singers.  This grand choir is our Core Ensemble for all singers from Years 9 to 12. Featuring tailor made arrangements that require choristers to sing up to six-part harmony, this ensemble is both a challenging and enjoyable experience with repertoire ranging from traditional choral works to contemporary chart toppers.  The Sheldon College Senior College Chorale is our weekly assembly choir and is always on call for our most important College ceremonies and special events.

Eve (Girls Years 9 to 12)

Eve is the Sheldon College senior female vocal ensemble. Entry into this group is by audition at the end of each year.  In 2012, Eve received widespread acclaim when their recording of ‘The Long and Winding Road’ was featured on ABC Radio.  In 2017, they were privileged to have been chosen to support Aled Jones at QPAC on his International "One Voice" tour.  The Sheldon College Eve ensemble performs professional-quality arrangements of traditional and contemporary songs from choral repertoire.  Sheldon College always receives enthusiastic feedback when Eve performs on a Friday Assembly.  Singers in Eve are required to be members of the Senior College Chorale.

Top Gun (Boys Years 7 to 12)

The Sheldon College Top Gun outstanding male vocal group is made up of more than 40 students from Years 7 to 12. This exciting vocal ensemble performs a wide range of styles from pop ballads and jazz standards to light classical songs, with most of the repertoire being arranged by the group's conductor, Mr Adam Lopez.  Students may join this ensemble anytime throughout the year but must remain in the ensemble until the end of the year.  Top Gun students who take voice lessons must attend their corresponding Core Ensemble: 

Students in year 7 – Middle College Chorale.

Students in years 9 to 12 – Senior College Chorale.

Dawn (Girls Year 8)

Sheldon College's Middle College female vocal ensemble - Dawn, draws from the developing talents of voice students enrolled as members of Middle College Chorale. It is an extension group currently comprising of students in year 8, with the potential from next year onwards to include other Middle College year levels by audition. Repertoire covered includes traditional songs, musical theatre and contemporary choral arrangements.

Middle College Chorale (Years 5 to 8)

The Middle College Chorale is the Core Ensemble for any student studying voice in years 5 to 8.  This ensemble welcomes all Middle College students and new participants are accepted throughout the year. With more than 80 singers, the Middle College Chorale covers a wide range of 3-part repertoire including light classical, modern works and musical theatre.  For special projects, the Middle College Chorale breaks up into two powerhouse ensembles:

Voiceworx: All girls ensemble directed by Miss Anna Butterworth

Cap Gun:  All boys ensemble directed by Mr Adam Lopez

Melodic Minors (Year 1)

Students in Year 1 are invited to join the Melodic Minors. This ensemble forms the launching pad for our amazing Vocal Program, with students discovering the joy of live performance and the importance of careful practice. Songs performed by the Sheldon College Melodic Minors cover original works as well as arrangements of existing popular songs.

Harmonic Minors (Year 2)

Students in Year 2 are invited to join the Harmonic Minors. This ensemble starts to introduce students to more complex songs, with some pieces starting to use two-part singing. Songs performed by this group cover original works as well as arrangements of existing popular songs.

Natural Minors (Year 3)

Students in Year 3 are invited to join the Natural Minors. Like the Year 2 Choir, this ensemble starts to introduce students to more complex songs, with many pieces employing two-part singing. Students will further explore vowel shapes, articulation and a sense of phrasing. Songs performed by this group cover traditional choral repertoire for this age group and level, as well as fun arrangements of popular contemporary songs.

Manhattan Trans-fours

As part of the Year 4 band program, the entire Year 4 cohort sings in this energetic and exciting vocal ensemble.  Focusing on further developing choral skills and part singing, the Sheldon College Manhattan Trans-fours ensemble covers repertoire from Musical Theatre, classic pop songs and children’s choral repertoire.
